Road To Debt Freedom: An Essential Guide to Managing, Understanding, and Eliminating Debt
Published in Paperback by American Literary Press (September, 2000)
Authors: S. Todd Cook and Michael A Kiefer
Average review score:

Excellent Self-Help Book
I came across Road To Debt Freedom at one of my friends home. After glancing through it for a while I decided to purchase the book a few days later. Being embarrassed about my credit card bills and overall financial picture I decided to take matters into my own hands. This book provided me with many chapters of useful information while being easy to read and understand. It's very rare for people these days take the time to say good job for something well done. Good Job!

A step-by-step guide to financial security and debt freedom!
Being in the debt management and credit counseling industry, we read a tremendous number of related books and articles. Every once in a while we come across an outstanding work of art that merits special attention. Road To Debt Freedom ranks at the upper echelon in this category!

The 144 page paperback covers virtually every aspect of managing, understanding and eliminating debt. Reading the book cover to cover, I was personally captivated with the style of writing and the handling of each subject matter. Also impressive was the authors' use of analogies which distinctively paints a vivid picture, especially in areas of finance which consumers often find confusing.

While this book is a MUST read for anyone burdened with debt, if so empowered, I would make it mandatory reading before anyone was granted credit. - Daniel Gelinas, The Center For Debt Management™

INSPIRING!
I found "Sailing By Grace" to be very inspiring! Not only is this book a collection of wonderfully written poems, but the author has taken the time to include a Biblical truth that applies to each of his poems. His opening comments challenge the reader and put the poem in context to be enjoyed to its fullest. Truly a work of art from a man who loves his Lord, his family, his church and those whom he has had the privilege of impacting! I highly recommend this book!

Beautiful!
"Sailing By Grace" is truly a work of art. As an editor, I found this book to be beautifully put together and inspiring. I highly recommend "Sailing By Grace" to anyone looking for a book of comfort and God's grace.

Sala, More Than a Survivor
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (December, 2001)
Authors: Marsha Casper Cook and Sala Lewis
Average review score:

A new take on the Holocaust
"Sala" is different from most available survivor stories for two reasons. First, its subject was only ten years old when she was taken away. Most accounts we have deal with older survivors, whereas Sala basically grows up in a concentration camp and is one of the few children that age to survive, adding a new perspective. Secondly, this book doesn't end with her liberation from the Nazis, but chronicles Sala living a full life despite a past that would make many give up. True stories like this are invaluable to our history, and Marsha Cook writes it eloquently.

Appreciating Living History
Sometimes it is nice to read the story of someone who has been there. Not fictionalized, not historical, just a person who after reading thier story you know you can relate to. This story is short and simple during an age of incomprehensible legnth and complexity.
This book is a great buy, especially to share with young adults.

A Seafood Celebration: Healthful, Festive, Easy-To-Prepare Recipes for the Casual Cook or the Connoisseur
Published in Hardcover by Book Sales (September, 1998)
Authors: Sheryl London and Mel London
Average review score:

A Seafood Celebration
A great book for restaurant operations. All of the recipes work. Also, great for giving service staff information about the varities of fish. I give it out to chefs as a reference book.

Seafood - Simple and Sublime
Sheryl and Mel London have done justice to fish! This is a must have cookbook for every chef. There are especially good sections on how to buy, prepare and cook fish in easy to follow and practical prose.

In addition to the selection and preparation of the ocean's bounty the book contains superb recipes for a simple meal - or an extravagant seafood feast. Favorites I have from the book include Cacciucco Alla Livornese, a spicy fish stew derived from an old Turkish recipe and Sauteed scallops with Ginger, red pepper and chives.

An excellent resource and a must have for every modern home cook.

Siege at the White House

Author: Paul Cook

couldn't put it down
This is the first book that I have read by this author, Paul Cook. I'm really looking forward to reading more of his books. This book kept me totally involved from beginning to end. As I was reading "Siege at the White House" I felt as if I was in the story and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Not only did I feel I was in the story itself, but the story was very believeable. It sent shivers up my spine to think how easy this fiction could be an nonfiction. I suggest anyone that likes reading a good thiller, mystery, or about terrorism, would enjoy this book. I would put Mr Cook up there with Tom Clancy, W.E.B. Griffin, and Robin Cook.

It will keep you reading
I could not put it down. I would rate this book up there with Tom Clancy's.

I think that it takes a look at the world today and provides a scenario that no one thinks will happen. We are too open with our borders and that makes this story a very real possibility.

Read this book, it's great.

Sister Strength A Collection Of Devotionals For And From African-american Women

Authors: Suzan D. Johnson Cook and Suzan D. Johnson-Cook

Sistah to Sistah
Sister Strength is a collection of devotions, inspirations and life stories from one sister to another. A wonderful dear loving life-long friend presented me with this book for Kwanzaa as the new Millennium approached, (thanks Dr.George-Harold Jennings), we both new I needed to roll into 2000 with the love of my sistahs and my Lord! These daily meditations give sisters the opportunity to breathe that sweet breath of life and know that they are loved, and revered for the contributions we make daily through individual and collective efforts. I encourage sisters young and old to melt into these pages, to laugh , to cry and to know that our creator smiles on us every day, just because, "That which you are seekin is seeking you"..p. 49, SISTER STRENGTH! Thank you Rev. Dr. Suzan Johnson-Cook.

Very inspirational for all women from all walks of life.
The devotional offers a compilation of experiences from a diverse group of African American women who come from many walks of life. You do not have to be African American to experience its spiritual and heart-warming value.

What I enjoyed most is that there were many pieces I could personally relate to. Those that I could not personally relate to I could share with a friend who could but still be enriched by the works in and of themselves.

It is wonderful to read a devotional that is so personal because it allows you to reflect on your life and that of your friends and family. The contributors reveal themselves when sharing their experiences.

Sister Strength is a great follow up to Rev. Johnson-Cook's "Sister to Sister".

Great for the bedside!

The Slicing Edge of Death
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (October, 1993)
Author: Judith Cook
Average review score:

Cook makes a convincing case!
In "The Slicing Edge of Death," author Judith Cook takes another look at the death of Christopher Marlowe, and in so doing, naturally, adds another segment into the death of this renowned Elizabethan playwright. Long one of England's perplexing mysteries, Marlowe's murder has brought more than a few theories as to the real reason for his death, much of it to do with one conspiracy or another.

Officially, Marlowe's demise was ruled as "death by brawl" by the Queen's coroner in 1593. However, centuries later, the controversy--even confusion--continues. And historians and novelists have attempted to solve this historical conundrum. Judith Cook's version is well-written and documented, yet, as she maintains, her work is fiction. Still, the author's style of writing and her ability to keep the reader in tow are to her credit. Assembling a cast of real and imaginary characters, Cook takes us to this ultimate date (May 30) in a systematic, yet absorbing, manner. The

reader will not want to stray from its pages for long!

"There was no reason why anyone, least of all William Bradley, should have known that 18 September 1589 was to be the lasts day of his life." Thus begins this "roman a clef"--a great narrative hook sure to snare even the most skeptic of readers. Thus, in chapter one we meet Christopher (Kit) Marlowe, playwright and poet extraordinaire, involved in one of his notorious street brawls. Marlowe's predilection for such behavior, as well as for his brilliant plays ("Tambourlaine," "The Jew of Malta," "Edward II," and "Dr. Faustus," principally) and poetry. A contemporary--and some say rival, of Shakespeare, Marlowe's short life was filled with not only his brilliance but his controversial--even for the Elizabethans!--lifestyle. In addition, the author downplays the "rivalry" between him and Shakespeare, which really is unimportant in this work. It is documented, too, that Marlowe had been in the employ of the Queen's secret service and had, indeed, worked on a number of cases involving the gathering of secret intelligence for the government.

In this book, the author uses Marlowe as a man who enters--and often exits-- the lives of her other characters. It is through the eyes of these characters that we view much of Marlowe, although he, himself, certainly plays a large--and vital--role. The environment we are introduced to is that of the world of the players, the actors and producers of the theatre. During this time, of course, London is visited by the plague, intense court intrigue, and other subterfuge. All these elements combine to make "The Slicing Edge of Death" compelling reading, especially for those readers interested in history stories. Judith Cook has made her version quite readable, plausible, and satisfying....

A Plausible Hypothesis
It's hard to say if the hypothesis Judith Cook puts forward for the death of Shakespeare's contemporary Christopher Marlowe is true, but it's definitely plausible. Marlowe was a great playwrite -- if he hadn't died young, he may well have exceeded Shakespeare in the modern English-lauguage canon -- and his early, violent death was a blow to literature. If even half of what Cook posits as possible reasons and modes of his death are true, the man was an early model of James Bond, and it's very edifying to think this might be how the man died.

Standard Operating Procedures and Guidelines
Published in Paperback by Fire Engineering Bk Dept (December, 1998)
Author: John Lee Cook
Average review score:

Good Fire Station SOP Source
I was tasked with rewriting our SOP's and Station Procedures when our department changed from all-vounteer to combination. This book is full of good ideas. It has shown numerous places where our SOP's were lacking, and given me ideas where we just needed to flesh them out.

Not a good title
Please note that I ordered this book thinking it was about general SOP writing. It is about procedures in Fire Stations only. If that is what you want... it is probably good.
